On December 28, the participants of “Impact of Polluted Environment on Health of Lori Region Residents” conference and Lori Region residents addressed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan calling for the establishment of an Interdepartmental Working Group under the Government of the Republic of Armenia for carrying out mining-impacted community residents’ health assessment and developing mining-impacted community residents’ health assessment strategy. The letter particularly says: We, the participants of the conference, the residents of the communities, recommend to set up an interdepartmental working group with the participation of MPs, independent experts and specialized NGOs under the Government of the Republic of Armenia for the following purposes:
• To study the current situation from the economic, environmental, social and health point of view, as well as the main causes of their occurrence
• To develop and then implement a complex program to fundamentally improve the situation • Develop a strategy for assessing the health of residents of communities polluted by mining, assessing the impact of mining on population health
• Develop a public health and agriculture policy for offsetting and compensating for the damage caused by mining.
