'The area of forests in Armenia has significantly reduced in parallel with decrease in forest productivity and defenseability. Illegal tree felling cause great damage to forests, which continue till now. Because of illegal forest felling gradually the number of high-value tree species has decreased being replaced with lower-value tree species and bushes,' as action plan of the Armenian Government says confirmed on 12 January 2017.
In this regard, the executive is going to adopt in 2017 'Concept Paper on Introduction of Illegal Forest Felling with Use of Latest Technologies.' It's expected that with the use of this legal act,
• supervision system will be improved,
• illegal forest felling will be reduced,
• forest integrity will be ensured,
• forest-covered areas will be increased.
In 2017 the executive also plans to adopt 'Concept Paper on Reforms in Forest Sector in the Republic of Armenia', which will emphasize ways to develop forest sector in the upcoming years.
