Selection of Materials of Counterpart Journalists on Forests in Armenia and Georgia

EcoLur

Forest media tour for the journalists from Armenia and Georgia is over, but the problems with forest haven’t finished. Based on the media tour journalists continue publishing their materials on the conflict of mining business with Lalvar forest and Teghout and Shnogh villagers, how Shamlukh community in Armenia and Akherpi in Georgia live and heat their houses located between Jiliza forest, how people in Margahovit village located near Gugark forest build new and technologically more practical wood ovens, as they can’t afford using gas because of its high cost. Materials on how important forest is for us and who cares about it. The best example of such care is “Pine Forest” Dendropark in Gulaqar.

Reminder: in September 2016 EcoLur organized trainings and media tour on forest problems in Armenia and Georgia with the participation of 10 journalists from Armenia and Georgia. Nine experts talked about environmental, social, economic and financial problems existing in our forests. The most urgent questions referred to illegal felling and related corruption and conflicts.

This project has been implemented in the frames of ENPI FLEG II, which is implemented by the World Bank in partnership with the IUCN and WWF with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency.

EcoLur has collected materials of our colleagues taking part in the media tour – Nune Avetisyan, presented of “Ecosphere” program on Public Radio, Anush Matevosyan – journalist from “Aravot” newspaper, Gohar Stepanyan from online newspaper, www.newspress.am, Shushanik Shatikyan from A1 Plus Internet TV (www.a1plus.am), Artem Manukyan – journalist from online newspaper www.panarmenian.am, Irma Charakashvili – TV reporter from Georgia (www.garb.ge).
