Roots of Greek Nut Transferred from Tavush Region to Iran

According to our reliable sources, in the summer and autumn of 2012 the roots of Greek nut trees were supplied from Tavush Region to Kotayk Region, where the roots were washed and cleaned and then exported to Iran. The workers, tractor drivers, among Tavoush regional residents, who fell down red-listed Greek nut trees and then cleaned the branches with a petrol-powered saw, haven’t received their salary from the mediator, about 1 million AMD.

Under the information we have, a minimum of 5-6 large trees were chopped down without the opinion of the State Environmental Inspection. Surprisingly, the Police Department on Fight against Organized Crime, which carries out an investigation in regard with the illegal felling in Tavush Region, is unaware of this fact.
