So far Norway is the only country, which has declared zero level of state procurement of felled rainforests, as the RNF, one of the leadings organizations in rainforests, Rainforest Norway Foundation, informs about it. RNF.

The article particularly says that a significant number of private companies world-wide have adopted zero deforestation policies and committed not to purchase sustainably source commodities such as palm oil, soy, beef and timber. Norges Bank Investment Management also played a significant role here, which manages the wealth fund, and that a separate policy for biodiversity be developed.

Rainforests are the main factor to resist climate change. As the specialists inform, only a third of the rainforest may be left on the world by 2020 with the current felling rates. According to the English botanist T. Whitmore, in order to support wood species survival taking into consideration genetic biodiversity, we need at least 5000 individual representatives of the species occupying an area of at least from 17 to 135 cubic kilometers, meanwhile the reduction of rainforests goes with such rates, that in a number of areas they may soon turn into critical ones.
