On 28 June, the judges of the Public Environmental Court summarized the response of state competent bodies on the verdicts they delivered.
The Public Environmental Court tried cases “On Violation of Water Resources Balance of Ararat Artesian Basin”, “On Teghout Copper and Molybdenum Mining Program”, “On Violations in Forest Ecosystem in Armenia”, “On Hazards Threatening Lake Sevan”, “Impact of Metallic Mining Developing in Armenia on Environment and Human Health”. The verdicts on these cases have been sent to RA Government, RA Chief Prosecutor’s Office, RA Security Council Secretary.
The public environmental proceedings have been organized by “EcoLur” Informational NGO. The press conference has been held with the participation of Environmental Lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan – Director of “Forests of Armenia” NGO, Member of the Coalition against Violence towards Women Zaruhi Hovhannisyan, Karine Danielyan – “Association for Sustainable Human Development” NGO and Lori-region-based 'Community Unity and Support Center' NGO President Oleg Dulgaryan.
Thus, RA Chief Prosecutor’s Office responded to the detection of violations laid down in the verdicts – already two criminal cases have been allocated.
e haven’t received any official response from a relevant ministry, through middle-range officials from governmental bodies have taken part in the hearings.
There is no official response from the Security Council, nevertheless, as we know they are interested in the safety of the nuclear power plant, which is connected to the insufficient amount of artesian water in Ararat Valley for the cooling of nuclear power plant systems. The other problem is the critical state of Lake Sevan.
