For the first time in Armenia a school forestry enterprise will be established at a distance of 2.5 km from Koghb community, Tavush Region, in the area of the monastery called 'Mshkavanq' - 'Mshkavanq' school forestry enterprise will occupy an area of 338 ha owned by 'ArmForest' SNCO. Over 40 schoolchildren in 8th grade and higher from 2 middle schools and art school in Koghb will deal with forest care and preservation.
The establishment of school forestry enterprise is planned in the frames of UNDP-GEN 'Introduction of Sustainable Land and Forest Management in Mountain Landscapes of North-East Armenia'. Project Manager in charge of Forest Management Plan Review Andranik Ghulijanyan said, 'Children will take care out of their classes, they will collect berries and fruit and will take back to school. Within 3 years we expect to get 18 tons of different fruit and berries. A youth camp can be set up in this area, to put tents and to develop tourism.'
RA Nature Protection Minister Artsvik Minasyan noted that the involvement of children in the works of the forestry enterprise shall have educational nature, 'Law bans child labor and it's a constitutional provision,' Artsvik Minasyan said.
