The State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia takes cars without plates as a standard, though this phenomenon is considered illegal in all other countries. This is the only way Nature Protection Ministry reply can be interpreted, which is given to “Won’t Keep Silence” movement activists who reported about illegal forest felling near Kirants. The Ministry stated it carried out certain examinations and revealed the alarm signal doesn’t comply with reality. Meanwhile the Ministry neglected the fact that the truck loaded with timber had no plates on.
If a car loaded with timber and without plates is considered to be a legal vehicle, officials’ high-flown statements about combating illegal felling and control over roads can be considered sound and fury.
This is official attitude to lawfulness and unlawfulness; we have an extreme alert and we would like to draw all officials’ attention liable for fight against illegal felling: Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, Nature protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan, “ArmForest” SNCO Head Martoun Matevosyan, “State Center for Forest Monitoring” SNCO Head Artur Alaverdyan and Police Head Alik Sargsyan.
