Nearly 44 hectares of forest were burnt in the forest adjacent to the Lehvaz-Vardanidzor highway in Syunik Region (Arevik National Park area), as Former Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia Ayser Ghazaryan reports. A former official posted on Facebook on August 12 in this regard attaching the 2018 and 2019 burned areas with satellite images taken after the fire.
Meanwhile, according to data published by the Ministry of Emergency Situations on August 12, about 12 hectares of vegetation were burnt as a result of the forest fire on the Lehvaz-Vardanidzor highway in Syunik Region.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations informed EcoLur that the Ministry of Emergency Situations has provided operative information, and the full data will be published by the Ministry of Environment after the measurements. Environment Ministry spokesman Armen Vardanyan said the ministry is still studying the data.
