Offers of Automated Water Management Systems Getting More Active in Armenia

Absence of automated water management systems remains to be one of the urgent problems in SHPP operation in Armenia, which leads to non-regulated water intake and water deprivation of rivers. The proposal to introduce automated water management systems in SHPPs is included in SHPP rehabilitation programme of RA Nature Protection Ministry.

Already now offers of automated water management systems are available in the market, and one of them was made during three-day 'Energy Week 2017' conference.

'Silver' Partner of American 'National Instruments Corporation' 'Bitlismen' LLC proposed innovative SCADA systems for the automated water management and monitoring of SHPPs operating in Armenia.

'We offer HPP automated management systems, which include monitoring and management of head section and aggregates both in mechanical and energetic parameters. We have management monitoring systems, which can monitor in-flowing water amount and environmental flow. If needed, flow may be increased or decreased through valve management so as to have sustainable environmental flow regardless of in-flowing water amount, which is what Nature Protection Ministry requires from SHPP owners,' Ashot Minasyan told EcoLur.

The material was developed in the frames of “Supporting new reforms in SHPP sector through CSO-government dialogue” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
