The Armenian Government granted tax privileges to 'Green Power' LLC for the construction of a small hydropower cascade on 18 May. The payment of VAT for the import of goods by the company was extended for three years.

According to the official information, the company is going to construct a small hydropower cascade with the capacity of 3.5 MW in Meghri Community, Syunik Region, Armenia by using the potential of the rivers in the mentioned area. The company plans to make a total investment of around 1 billion AMD, out of which the money designed for equipment will make up around 311,4 million AMD.

Recently the project on the construction of 'Chqnagh' SHPP with the capacity of 3.5 MW submitted by 'Green Power ' LLC has been issued a positive opinion, according to which the construction of the SHPP is in contrast with the regime of conservation of 'Arevik' National Park.
Tree felling is planned to be carried out for the construction of 'Chqnagh' SHPP. Decrease in water yields will be observed in the certain part of the river because of water intake, which will result in the violation of hydraulic, thermal, settling and bed-washing, as well as water self-cleaning regimes, deterioration of riverbed humidity and further risk of desertification, change in the conditions of feeding, spawning and reproduction of local fish species.

'Green Power' LLC is already developing 'Meghri 1' SHPP on the Meghri River.

The material was developed in the frames of “Supporting new reforms in SHPP sector through CSO-government dialogue” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
