"Supporting new reforms in SHPP sector through CSO-government dialogue" project expert group discussed the actions plan aimed at the solution to problems in small hydropower. The experts discussed in details the Hydropower Development Concept of the Republic of Armenia approved by protocol decision N 53 dated on 29 December 2016 of the Armenian Government. According to this governmental resolution, during 6 months an action plan ensuring the implementation of this concept paper shall be submitted to the staff of the Armenian Government.
The expert group decided to include 'Action Plan Aimed at Solution to Environmental Problems in Small Hydropower ' in the action plan ensuring the implementation of this concept paper. The document will lay down actions aimed at environmental protection in developing hydropower sector. Particularly, conditions and requirements subject to mandatory implementation will be developed for SHPPs, the enforcement of which will eliminate or minimize adversary effects on environment.
Discussion group members were as follows: Roza Julhakyan - Head of Department of Accounting and Analysis at Nature Protection Ministry, PhD in Chemical Sciences, Nazik Mkrtchyan - Chief Specialist at Environmental Expertise SNCO of Nature Protection Ministry, Nazik Chzmachyan – Leading Specialist of Basin Planning Management Department of Nature Protection Ministry, independent experts - “Sustainable Caucasus” (SCOPES) National Coordinator Armen Gevorgyan, Ichthyologist Samvel Pipoyan - Professor at Biology and Teaching Methodology Department, Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University, Dr. in Biological Sciences, Inessa Gabayan – Hydrotechnical Architecture, PhD in Technical Sciences, and Lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan - Director of “Forests of Armenia” NGO.
