“Green Power” LLC has submitted the construction project of “Chqnagh” SHPP to RA Nature Protection Ministry for assessment. “Chqnagh” SHPP is planned to be construction on the Tashtoun River in Syunik Region, near Arevik National Park. The projected capacity of the SHPP is 3.31 MW, which will annually produce, on average, 12.05 million kWph electricity. The SHPP will ensure an environmental flow of 0.03 cum/s, which will be let out through a fish passway. An open channel flowmeter, MJK 713, will be installed in the section of the fish passway to measure environmental flow. The fish world of the Tashtour River hasn’t been studied. The project developers have designed a fish passway for “Chqnagh” SHPP taking into consideration the fish species specific to the Meghri River.

38 trees are planned to be constructed during SHPP construction and a tree planting will be carried out to recover vegetation cover.

“Chqnagh” SHPP is going to be the second SHPP on 13-kilometer-long Tashtoun River. In 2014 “ZangezourEnergo” LLC filed a project to construct “Arevik” SHPP on the Tashtoun River. If these two SHPPs start operate, the half of the Tashtoun River will be piped.

The public hearings on the construction project of “Chqnagh” SHPP (the second one) will be held at Meghri Municipality, Syunik Region, at 12:00 on 13 March.

The material was developed in the frames of “Supporting new reforms in SHPP sector through CSO-government dialogue” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
