The Armenian Government is ready to accept any Chinese Company to regulate the construction of a copper smelting plant in Armenia, as Economy Minister Karen Tchshmarityan at Q&A session with the Armenian Government at the National Assembly on 8 April. “Prosperous Armenia” Faction MP Michael Melqumyan raised the question of a copper smelting plant. 'In the last year we mined an unprecedented amount of metallic ore as compared with the Soviet period – 25 million tons instead of 8 millions, but we are currently experiencing problems with profit because of price drop in international markets. In this regard, in which stage is the construction of the latest copper smelting plant, which cost around 300 million Euros still 6-7 years ago,' Michael Melqumyan said.

In reply Economy Minister said this issue was discussed at the meeting with China PM during Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's visit to China.
