Demand to Armenian Government; Ban Plastic Bags in Shops

On 25 May the Armenian Government was submitted a petition to ban the use of one-time plastic bags in shops.

Miqayel Hovhannisyan has initiated a signature collection on change.org website entitled ‘Ban Using One-Time Plastic Bags in Shops’ and collected 931 signatures. The petition says: ‘75% of the garbage worldwide is plastic bags. They get destroyed very long in nature – only during 100-400 years. According to the average data for the recent years. Annually around 823 tons of plastic bags are used per year, while the generated garbage is almost not used. In garbage landfill sites they are spread in the neighborhood through winds, while if burnt, they produce extremely toxic, carcinogenic chemical substances polluting the environment – dioxide.
Taking into consideration these problems the use of one-time plastic bags shall be banned in all shops, instead high-quality bags of multiple-use shall be sold.’
