On November 13, 2014, at 15:00 in Lehvaz municipality, in the Syunik Province of Armenia, public discussions will take place on preliminary assessment of construction of “Meghri-1” SHP presented by “Green Power” Ltd. The official website of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the RA informs about this.
In the application the negative influence on environment is completely excluded. “You can be sure that during the construction and exploitation of “Meghri-1” SHP the environment will not only be damaged but also it will retain its natural course of development.
According to the application “Meghri-1” SHP will be built on the river Meghri.
The environmental outcome of “Meghri-1” SHP will be 0.092 m3/s: It is stated that the SHP will be exploited for 11 months or 330 days per year. They didn’t take into consideration the fact that in summer the river Meghri gets too shallow and the water of the river isn’t enough for irrigation.
In the application the biodiversity and the fish of the river Meghri in the area of the SHP are not examined.
Though the upper currents of the river Meghri are included in the territory of “Arevik” national park, there is nothing mentioned about it in the application.
The material was developed in the frames of “Supporting reforms in the sector of small hydro power plants through enabling a dialogue between civil society and the Ministry of Nature Protection for sustainable use of river ecosystems” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
