The projects aimed at energy efficiency in Armenia give their results; particularly Yerevan Municipality saved US $ 30,000 in eight months in 2015 due to the urban energy efficiency pilot project in Yerevan implemented by the UNDP. In this regard, the UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator Diana Harutyunyan said at the round table “Climate Change – Civil Society as Main Partner and Beneficiary” held at “EcoLur” Press Club on 24 March.

“We did urban lighting projects with 5 towns – we had contracts with all of them to install energy efficient lamps and calculate how much is saved. Each month our specialists and the municipality specialists signed under a document that the funds accumulated at the end of the year should be again spent on lighting energy efficiency. In December 2015 Yerevan Municipality transferred the saved US $ 30,000 to the UNDP and now we are using these funds to change the lighting in Victory Park and Mashtots Avenue. Spitak has savings of US $2200 this year. We are thinking of adding this sum by attracting funds from other donors to change the lighting in the other streets of the town.”
