"Gaj" CJSC Intends to Expand Gypsiferous Clay Mine Areas

"Gaj" CJSC intends to expand the area of Jrvezh gypsiferous clay mine areas making it 9.8 ha out of 5.5 ha. The nearby residential areas to the mine are Jrvezh, Shoraghbyur and Voghjaberd Villages, which are located at a distance of 2-5 km from the mine. "Gaj" CJSC has submitted a project for environmental impact assessment.

According to the project, the number of balance reserves of the open mine to be expanded make up 7 million 800 hundred thousand tons, while the amount of extracted reserves will be around 6 million 650 thousand tons. Annual productivity will make up 150,000 tons of gypsiferous clay, while around 127,500 tons will be mined. The mining will be carried out in an open cast manner without mine explosions. The mine is planned to be operated for 44 years.

According to the project, mand-made pressure will be demonstrated on atmosphere, land cover and integrity of landscape in the course of open mining operations.
