In the course of the recent week, the society is beating an alarm signal about the death of storks in Hovtashen Village, Ararat Region, because of their feathers begin covered with oil having resulted in the inability of the birds to fly and consequent death. The employees of Inspection body transferred one stork with oily feathers from Hovtashen community to Scientific Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA. It has been found out that the bird has completely been covered with a thick layer of dirt and fat, as Lyuba Balyan from Scientific Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of NAS RA posted on her Facebook page. “It has bon out that the feathers have been covered not with technical oil but fat of plant or animal origin used in the production of food,” she wrote. It has been found out that almost 70% of the storks in Hovtashen village are in the same situation, which can be qualified as an environmental disaster. We need to urgently detect the source of such a leak and punish those guilty. Currently, RA Environmental and Mining Inspection Body is carrying out examinations in terms of the leaking wastewater of the existing business entities.
