The Armenaian Environmental Front held a protest demonstration against Amulsar gold mining project during the launch of 'Business Women' program organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development held in Armenia Marriot Hotel, Yerevan.
The demonstrators demanded from the EBRD to stop funding Amulsar project. They present the attendees of the event the assessments of Lydian International Limited offshore company, according to which mining will lead to overuse of alcoholci drinks, new or expanded network of prostitution, spread of sexual diseases and increase in crimes.
The environmentalists disseminated informative sheets of paper to the attendees of the event.
According to the assessment of the specialists, Amulsar project bears uncontrollable risks for the water resources in Armenia, particularly for the mineral waters of Jermuk and Lake Sevan.
It should be mentioned that the EBRD has funded Amulsar open gold mining project and the construction of a heap leach facility, which is implemented by the British Lydian International Ltd company. The EBRD is also one of the shareholders of the Lydian.
