Exceeding Emissions of Carbon Monoxide, Nitric Oxide in Malatia Sebastia Caused Disastrous Situation for Human Health

EcoLur

The exceeding emission of carbon monoxide and nitric oxide in Malatia Sebastia have caused disastrous situation for the human health. The sources of emissions are the operating enterprises. The total amount of emitted harmful substances made up 518.35 tons for 2012:  dust- 10.19 tons, nitric oxide (NO) – 15.56 tons, carbon monoxide (CO) -55.67 tons, sulphur dioxide (SO2)- 0.25 tons.

This situation in Malatia Sebastia has been assessed due to EcoLur’s Ecological Risk Model. The model has assessed the situation with emissions in different administrative areas of Yerevan due to the data provided by various enterprises to the State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry in 2012. As a standard, the model considers the emission of the least polluted area in Yerevan, which, in our case, is Nubarashen area with its total amount of emissions of 3.37 tons, dust – 1.6 tons, nitric oxide – 0.28 tons, carbon monoxide - 1.49 tons and nitrogen dioxide – 0 ton.

The model assessed pollution in line with the following principle -  if the emissions exceed the standards by 10 times, the situation is assessed as poor, if by over 20 times, which lasts for two days, the situation is assessed as critical, if by 30-50 times and lasts for over 8 hours, the situation is assessed as disastrous.
